It Is Personal: People-Focused Leadership That Inspires Excellence
W hen Robert Goldstein founded Genpro more than 35 years ago, he envisioned a logistics company centered around service and relationships— an approach shaped by a childhood spent around the produce and trucking industries. With early exposure to retail distribution through his grandfather and hands-on understanding of transportation from his father, he “developed a deep appreciation for the essential role logistics plays in the flow of commerce.” That foundation, combined with research he conducted in college on non-asset-based freight models, helped spark the idea for a brokerage that would do things differently. MORE THAN JUST FREIGHT “What I wanted from the beginning was to understand our customers’ businesses well enough to become an extension of their operations,” Goldstein says. Rather than simply covering freight, Genpro set out to anticipate needs, solve problems proactively, and create long-term value. That philosophy helped the company evolve from a small transactional brokerage into a nationwide strategic logistics provider. Goldstein’s leadership approach centers on three principles: integrity, adaptability, and service. “Our industry doesn’t reward complacency,” he says. He has always encouraged his team to stay curious, learn
continuously, and embrace change—an outlook that has helped Genpro navigate shifting regulations, technology cycles, and market volatility. A PHILOSOPHY FOR GROWTH Equally important is his belief in leading from the ground up. Goldstein spends substantial time with employees across functions, learning what they need to perform at their best. “Leadership is not defined by title; it’s defined by accountability, skills, and the ability to elevate others,” he notes. Major milestones—such as expanding nationwide, building a world-class carrier network, and launching managed service programs—reflect Genpro’s steady growth and its emphasis on operational excellence. Investments in technology, talent development, and strong carrier relationships have strengthened the company’s ability to provide reliable, high-touch service in a crowded marketplace. Looking ahead, Goldstein says Genpro plans to deepen its presence in temperature-sensitive sectors, leverage automation and data science, and broaden its supply chain solutions—while maintaining the personal, partnership-driven approach that has defined the company since day one.
