THE CHALLENGE One of our warehousing customers recently faced a signicant logistical challenge driven by impending tariff changes. As the deadline for the tariffs approached, the customer sought to proactively import and store additional products to avoid the cost increases that would take effect once the tariffs were implemented. This required a rapid expansion of storage capacity and an increase in daily receiving volumes beyond typical operational levels. The sudden inux of inventory created unique operational pressures. Not only did we need to identify and secure additional warehouse space on short notice, but we also had to adjust stafng, equipment usage, and scheduling to accommodate a higher number of inbound shipments each day. The accelerated pace of receiving and storing goods placed additional demands on both labor and space planning, while still maintaining accuracy, organization, and safety standards within the facility. Meeting these requirements meant quickly reconguring storage layouts, optimizing pallet positions, and prioritizing inbound scheduling to ensure smooth intake without disrupting existing customer operations. The situation underscored the importance of exibility and rapid response in the warehousing and fulllment industry, particularly when customers face external market pressures beyond their control.

THE SOLUTION By mobilizing resources and collaborating closely with the customer, we were able to successfully receive and store the increased inventory, mitigating the nancial impact of the tariffs and maintaining the customer’s supply chain stability. Once we learned of the customer’s need to rapidly import additional product before the tariff deadline, our team immediately assessed available capacity across our network, secured additional warehouse space, recongured storage layouts, and optimized pallet positioning to maximize every available square foot within the 2-week timeframe. To handle the surge in daily inbound shipments, we adjusted stafng schedules, brought in additional labor,

inbound volumes, space availability, and operational priorities, enabling us to make rapid adjustments as needed. This proactive, time-sensitive approach ensured every shipment was processed on time without disrupting other operations, demonstrating the value of exibility and strategic problem-solving when navigating market pressures such as tariffs.
