T he Port of New York and New Jersey provides unmatched access to a large and concentrated consumer market, reaching 13 million people within one hour, 28 million people within two hours, 46 million consumers within four hours, and many more in key inland markets through our direct connections to major interstate highways and two Class I railroads. A Global Gateway From our terminals, rails, and roads, we quickly and efficiently deliver goods to local and inland consumers and businesses, reaching 134 million people within 36 hours by rail or truck. We are the first port of call for more than 70% of arriving vessels, and their cargo is often delivered by rail to inland destinations before the vessels arrive at the next U.S. port. Collaboration, Coordination, and Communication Relying on the support and collaborative efforts of our Port partners and the Council on Port Performance, the Port of New York and New Jersey remains steadfast in our commitment to deliver cargo despite challenging times. Through collaboration and communication, we work together and share information to move essential goods to millions of Americans and ensure the smooth flow of goods through our Port. One Port, Many Operations Our six container terminals welcome the world’s largest ships, and our on-dock ExpressRail system provides the largest

rail lift capacity on the U.S. East Coast. Our facilities also include three auto terminals, two cruise terminals, New York New Jersey Rail, and access to more than 1 billion square feet of industrial space within 50 miles. We serve container shipping, automobile processing, bulk and breakbulk cargo, warehousing and distribution, cruise passengers, intermodal, refrigerated cargo, cross harbor rail, foreign-trade zone activities, and maritime support industries.

Growing and Improving This past year, we have seen record

breaking cargo numbers and are making critical improvements at our facilities to keep up with the pace, further ensuring the speed and reliability of getting your cargo to market. The Port of New York and New Jersey has seen 26 consecutive months of record volume. In the first ten months of 2022, the Port moved 8.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), a 30% increase from the same period in 2019. In July 2021, the U.S. Department of Transportation approved a $44 million infrastructure grant for road improvements at Port Newark, which will go toward a $176 million modernization project to create a safer, more efficient road network configuration. We are also collaborating with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on a plan to deepen our channels to -55 feet MLW so that one day we will be able to welcome the industry’s largest container vessels.
